Remember when this election cycle started and the hot buzz on the street was that Rudy Giuliani had the Republican nomination wrapped up?

Well, we all call them wrong sometimes, but he has at least stepped back into the mix, according to First Read, and has graced us with another one of his totally absurd quotes that we have come to know and love from ol’ Rudy.

“Throughout this campaign, I have been very concerned that the Democrats want to take a step back to the failed policies that treated terrorism solely as a law enforcement matter rather than a clear and present danger,” Giuliani said in a statement released by the McCain campaign. “Barack Obama appears to believe that terrorists should be treated like criminals — a belief that underscores his fundamental lack of judgment regarding our national security. In a post-9/11 world, we need to remain on offense against the terrorist threat which seeks to destroy our very way of life. We need a leader like John McCain who has the experience and judgment necessary to protect the American people.”

So he jumped back into the election cycle, to criticize Obama on terrorism? Very fitting I suppose, coming from Rudy. If there is ever an opportunity to talk about 9/11, Rudy is going to take it, just as he has done here.

Why the Republicans want to paint the Democrats as the party against national security, I’ll never understand. Any person with just a bit of common sense would be able to realize that NO Democrat wants another terrorist attack in this country. NO Democrat wants to side with the terrorists. NO Democrat wants to make this country any less safer than it already is.

The GOP have repeatedly tried to paint the Democrats as being soft on national security, and I just do not think it will work, and for people to believe that notion, is just simply absurd.

Issuing your standard right-wing talking points can only get you so far, before you begin to simply sound ridiculous.

What the Democrats are not going to do, is let the neoconservative agenda in this country continue to tear down our nation and our military. The Democratic party understands that when war is needed, war is fought, and at no point have they or will they ever stray from that point of view. The Democratic party also understands that diplomacy often speaks mightier than the force, and for the last 7 years, diplomacy has virtually been non-existant.

You will be just as safe (and likely safer) under an Obama administration, period. Obama will not “cut and run” in Iraq as many on the right like to express and Obama will not be meeting with our enemies “just for the fun of it”.

What Obama will do is carefully and responsibly get us out of a failed conflict in Iraq, make sure that we continue to fight the battle in Afghanistan, and he will impose strict diplomacy on our enemies, by way of face-to-face, serious talks.

This is not appeasment, it is not being weak on national security, it is being the commander-in-chief, one of which we have not seen in the last 7 years, and we are certainly seeing the negative effects on that both at home and abroad.
