Sen. John McCain yesterday, during a townhall meeting, said some things that are a little shocking….

So I can tell you that it is succeeding. I can look you in the eye and tell you it’s succeeding. We have drawn down to pre-surge levels. Basra, Mosul and now Sadr city are quiet and it’s long and it’s hard and it’s tough and there will be setbacks.

First of all, I am not sure what Mr. McCain considers “succeeding”, but if this is it, I sure as hell would hate to see what losing is.

Next, we are not at pre-surge levels as he has stated. Before the surge, there were roughly 140,000 troops in Iraq. Right now, there are just at 154,000 troops in Iraq. So clearly, we are not at a pre-surge level, although he have slimmed down from the original surge number of about 170,000 troops.

I find it odd that McCain continues to attack Obama for not going over to Iraq enough, yet McCain has been there on several occasions and still cannot get the facts right.

It is going to become clearer and clearer as this race goes on that John McCain is not nearly the war hawk that he makes himself out to be. He is nothing more than a beefed up version of the Bush Regime, who is dead set on continuing the flawed war in Iraq.

I am amused daily at how much he wants to distance himself from the Bush Administration, yet on so many fronts, he continually moves closer and closer in line with a failed Bush policy. I can only chalk it up to the fact that he is trying to garner the Bush supporter votes, along with the votes of the Neocons that are dead set on making sure that we completely take over the Middle East.

And to think that all along he has called himself a Maverick?!?
