Sen. John McCain has gotten a huge pass from the media over the last few weeks, most notably because of the Democratic primary that looks like it will never end.

Earlier this week, McCain made a statement during a town hall meeting that is now buzzing around the media like wildfire. Here the statement in question:

“My friends I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will – that will then prevent us – that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.”

Now, I believe that there is only one way to read that statement. We went into Iraq over oil. For years we have been told that was not the case, although many Americans disagreed, and believed that we did in fact go into Iraq because of our dependence on oil.

Well, now that McCain realizes that he has let the cat out of the bag, he is suddenly trying to defend the statement with pathetic excuses:

“I was talking about that we had fought the first Gulf War for several reasons. One of them was Saddam Hussein’s invasion and that’s just not something that’s acceptable…but also we didn’t want them to have control over the oil, and that part of the world is critical to us because of our dependency on foreign oil. And it’s more important than in any other part of the world.”

Ok Mr. McCain, sure. Spin this however you wish sir, but the truth remains that we know exactly what you were trying to say in the statement.

The fact that the media has given this guy a pass for the last few weeks is mind-boggling to me. Every time he speaks he either makes a huge mistake or makes statements that are just simply so idiotic it is unbelievable.

The media however is far too concerned about Rev. Wright and Obama wearing his lapel pin to ever question McCain on this stuff, luckily this one made some headlines and now they are starting to take a closer look at what this guy is actually saying.

John McCain scares me and the simple idea of him being our president is something that I cannot fathom. I can’t wait to see how his campaign ultimately spins this statement but you can be rest-assured that the media will give him a pass on it in the end.
