Yep, the Republican hack himself has a new Newsweek article out this week that describes in 6 details how Barack Obama can fight the “elitist” label and secure the nomination and the White House.
While I will admit that Rove makes some interesting points in his article, I still just simply don’t trust the guy and therefore, would not listen to a damn thing he has to say, right or wrong.
It is clear that Obama has been on a slight decline as of late, but that is largely due in part to the fact that Sen. Clinton cannot and will not stop attacking him. Obama has to defend himself and when he does, it sinks him just as low as Clinton, which people just simply do not like.
While I certainly think that Obama has the Democratic nomination completely wrapped up, I can see how his recent slide would worry people in November. The problem here though is that the party as a whole is killing the mood for everyone, not Obama himself.
As for Rove and his “advice”, I think this particular one stands out for me:
1. Your stump speech is sounding old and out of touch. You made a mistake by not giving the bored press (and voters) something new last Tuesday when you lost Pennsylvania. Come up with something fresh that’s focused on the general election. Recapture the optimistic tone of your start and discard the weary, prickly and distracted tone you’ve taken on.
I agree with this and I have been saying for the last couple of weeks that Obama needs to change the tone and message of his stump speeches. I think that people only want to hear a certain message for a certain period of time, then they want you to dig down and really break down specifics for them.
At this point in the primary process, there are too few votes to gain by keeping your message broad and overly simplistic. I believe that Obama needs to move on with his message now and refine for the general election.
It will be interesting to see how many, if any, of Rove’s little tidbits of wisdom end up being used by the Obama campaign. My guess is……none. He has done a pretty damn good job so far and will see this thing through to the end just fine.
