Posted by Cory Perry as Election 2008, John McCain, MSNBC
According to a new MSNBC article, two lawyers, one Republican and one Democrat, have concluded that John McCain’s 1936 birth in the Panama Canal does not disqualify him to run for president.
According to the article:
“Based on the original meaning of the Constitution, the Framers’ intentions, and subsequent legal and historical precedent, Senator McCain’s birth to parents who were U.S. citizens, serving on a U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936, makes him a ’natural born citizen’ within the meaning of the Constitution,” the review found.
So, now that we have that out of the way, the only thing that will keep McCain from becoming President at this point, is his stance on the issues, which is what it should be all about anyway.
His campaign has already been labeled as a “Third Bush Term”, and I agree with that label. While I do think that John McCain is a little smarter than our current President, he just does not seem to have the vision for this country that really makes him any different than the current administration.
His stance on the war is no different, and he has stated many times that the Iraq course will continue just as it is now. His economic experience leaves much to be desired, and he has no plan for getting us out of the current economic crisis that we are facing. Even if he chooses Mitt Romney as his VP, that still will do little to strengthen his economic appeal of the ticket.
I respect John McCain for his service to the nation, but when it comes to him leading the nation, I just can’t get on that train. I just can’t support what on the surface, looks to be another term mirroring the last 8 years.
