As if we needed yet another sign that the war in Iraq is bogging us down, a new MSNBC report says that President Bush has been warned of what the Iraq war is doing to the troop and their families.

Excessive tours of duty are no doubt putting a strain on our troops, and now it appears that very little relief is coming anytime soon. Tours are expected to be shortened to 12 months, down from the current 15 month deployments. There is also a plan to cut troop levels down to 140,000 troops by the end of July. While I suppose this is a start, this does not appear to be a rational plan to get out of Iraq with any haste.

It will be interesting to see if any of the current presidential candidates pick this story up and try to capitalize on it. With Obama and Clinton both talking about complete withdrawal plans, I imagine this story will be just one more staple to drive that plan home with the American people.
