After reading a great post by Greg Palmer over at myDD.com, I started thinking about the upcoming PA primary and was trying to figure out if it would really matter if Sen. Hillary Clinton won it.

In short, no, it really won’t matter.

Sen. Clinton would have to win by such a large margin, which I believe just simply won’t happen, that her winning in PA will really make no difference in the outcome of the Democratic primary. Recent polls have her up by a double-digit lead, but even if those numbers are reflected in the actual results, she won’t make up any significant ground on Sen. Obama for the nomination.

The key to winning over PA voters is clearly talking honestly about the economy, which I admit Mrs. Clinton has done quite well. Her lead in the state can almost entirely be contributed to the fact that she has stressed solutions to problems that are hexing the average voter in PA. Barack Obama has not really driven home that message, which is why I believe he is trailing in the polling numbers.

The Obama campaign have decided instead to focus on the NC primary and IN primary coming up on May 6th. These are two states that Obama will do quite well in and possibly sweep both. Those two states coupled with his marginal gain in PA, are really going to put the death nail in the coffin of the Clinton campaign.

The PA win will not matter for Clinton though, other than to further pad her idea of winning the big states matters. To me, this logic is totally absurd, as I don’t think it holds in any water when it comes to the general election.

One thing is for sure, the lead up to the PA primary has thus far been interesting to say the least, so this last month should really interesting to watch. In the end though, it will all be for not for the Clinton campaign, and I think they know it. Now we can just sit back and watch how they take it, and what happens from here.
